Meet Mathilde Rietsch, photographer in Lausanne
Mathilde Rietsch is a Swiss photographer based in Lausanne. She fell for photography about ten years ago and holds a diploma in it.
Portraits are her daily work. Landscapes are her passion, shared under the name Frihead. The Swiss mountains are her favorite place to shoot, and she loves to camp out with her camera to follow the Alps from sunrise to sunset.
Helm + Oar describes her as an outdoor photographer rooted in the mountains she grew up around. She works in light, atmosphere and emotion, with a look inspired by film.

The places
The Alps, and the roads beyond them
Most of her photographs are made in the Swiss Alps. A few follow her north to Norway and west to the open road.

Norway
Red cabins and a harbor beneath a jagged peak, mirrored in water so still it looks like glass.
See Nordic Docks
Route 66, California

Take Me With: the story behind the photograph
A vintage convertible winds up an alpine road in Switzerland. Snow sits on the peaks ahead, and the road keeps climbing.
It is a picture of the open road and a trip taken slowly. Mathilde lists improvised road trips and the timeless elegance of the sixties among the things she loves, and both are here.
Hang it where you start your day, and keep a little of that freedom close.

The Swiss Alps series
Swiss Alps wall art: four ways into the mountains
An old hotel under a glacier, the Matterhorn, a train window and a stone lodge. Hang two or more together, and the wall reads as one journey.
At home
Mountain wall art for the living room, and beyond
Calm, cool and full of air, these photographs bring a clear mountain morning indoors.
In the living room
Hang one large print above the sofa, sized to about two-thirds of its width. Snow, sky and pale stone sit well with linen, wool and light wood.
In a mountain home or cabin
Alp Grüm or Alpine Solitude bring the lodge feeling home. Hickory frames echo warm timber.
On a gallery wall
Group three from the Alps series. The peaks repeat, the scenes change, and the wall becomes one long walk in the mountains.
