Owen Perry:Landscapes for the Curated Wall

A British Columbia photographer who brings the natural world back indoors. A still lake, a ridgeline in mist, a fire at the water. Collectors do not decorate a wall. They curate it, and these are prints worth choosing.

The artist

Meet Owen Perry, photographer and print-maker

Owen Perry is a nature and landscape photographer who lives in British Columbia, Canada. He works under the name Circa 1983, as a photographer and visual designer.

His purpose is simple. A growing number of people live in cities, distracted and disconnected from the natural world and the present moment. His images are a way to reach them. He describes his portfolio as a curated selection.

The look borrows from the nostalgic quality of film and from Canadian traditions such as the Group of Seven. His work has been shown at Science World Vancouver and Hus Galleries London, and has appeared in campaigns for Filson and Land Rover.

The moment

It's Just Me: the story behind the photograph

A canoe and its oar rest on a grassy shore in British Columbia. The lake is still, and a pale mist hangs over the far hills. Nobody is in the frame.

Curators ask one question of every piece: does it belong? It's Just Me answers quietly, and it keeps answering. It is the moment Owen Perry caught, and the one you keep when it hangs on your wall.

People rarely choose it for the canoe. They choose it for what it says: there is room here for stillness, and nothing else is needed.

Landscape wall art for every room

Calm, natural and quietly confident, these photographs give a room somewhere to rest its eyes.

In the living room

Lean three prints along a credenza for a relaxed, collected look, as in the first photograph. Leave space between them so each one is seen.

In an entryway or hallway

One wide piece, like In Plain View, gives a hallway a single clear point of view. Leave the wall around it empty.

In the kitchen or bedroom

Pair two pieces with a shared palette. The Shaded Mountain and Home By The Fire sit well together on one wall.
